True Studio-Grade VCA Compression
The Underthruster™ brings true studio-grade compression to the pedalboard by providing unmatched transparency and headroom. At half the cost of a rack-mount compressor, the Underthruster™ delivers essential features with uncompromised audio fidelity.
The unique design couples a Blackmer® Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) with a RMS level detector and internally multiplied power supply. Unlike devices used in common compressor pedals, the VCA preserves tone by providing smooth, clear compression with minimal distortion. The controls allow you to accurately dial in a wide range of compression profiles from subtle leveling and overtone enhancement to aggressive limiting.
In addition to the pedalboard, best in class headroom allows the Underthruster™ to be used as a drop-in replacement for studio and sound reinforcement applications. Even though the pedal runs on a standard 9V (center negative) power supply, the internally multiplied voltage regulator allows for input and output signal swings of 30 V-peak.
Easy to Use
Inspired by the legendary dbx® 160 series, the Underthruster™ is versatile and easy to use. Three simple controls provide Threshold, Ratio, and Gain adjustment. The threshold allows adjustment to work with input signals ranging from quiet guitar to studio line-level. Ratio is fully adjustable from 1:1 to hard limiting 20:1. The intuitive and responsive LED Gain Reduction meter ensures accurate feedback to the user.
Threshold
Sets the sensitivity of the compressor. With the threshold knob at minimum, compression is most significant. Low levels are sensitive enough for quiet guitar signals, while higher levels are appropriate for line level studio use.
Ratio
Sets the slope, or degree, of compression. At 1:1, there is no compression. At 20:1, the Underthruster™ is at maximum compression, acting as a limiter.
Gain
Sets output level after compression, allowing make-up gain to be added to the output signal. With Ratio set to 1:1, the Gain knob provides clean boost or attenuation.
